Abiding in the presence of God.

"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love" John 15.9

"This is what all the work of grace aims at—an ever deeper knowledge of God, and an ever closer fellowship with him. Grace is God drawing us closer and closer to himself."
- Rev. Dr. J. I. Packer

Jesus spent considerable quantity and quality time with the Father. Throughout the gospels we see Him going off early, or finding a quiet place to pray.  He lived a life of worship in an intimate oneness that allowed Jesus to say that “the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what He sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.” John 5.19

Presence ≠ Passivity.

When Jesus ascended to heaven, He sent His Holy Spirit, and continually invites us to participate in the communion of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. As followers of Jesus - together across all space and time as "the Church" or "the body of Christ" - we are the temple of the Holy Spirit: a dwelling place for God! This is evidenced by His presence in and among us, and we echo the words of Moses in Exodus 33.15 saying "If Your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here."

We seek to be in and to have our lives marked deeply by the presence of God.

At Emmaus Road, we’re committed to spending time in His presence. We gather together regularly as a community for times of worship and prayer. We make space for His presence, and we aren’t in a hurry to ‘move on’. As individuals and as a community we’re committed to making a priority of the living and active presence of God in our daily lives.
